Science vs Religion
Although I don’t broadcast it, I am an Atheist. This comic pretty much sums it up for me.

From the article:”This simple relationship between the colors used to create the illusion and the perception of the illusion has helped Shapiro come up with a model of how we perceive it. We see the illusion because our visual system relies not just on color information, but also on contrast information to make judgments about what we are seeing. When color values are plugged into Shapiro’s mathematical model, when the difference between the color angle of the surround and center equals 90 degrees, then the plot of contrast for the left (red) and the right (blue) disk becomes identical, so the centers are seen changing together, while for all other values we see them changing out of phase.”

I’m a science geek. Should be no surprise. It was thought for the longest time that all energy and life on earth received its energy in one form or another from the sun. Well.. oops. Scientists have discovered two entire eco systems that are completely independent of the suns energy. And a really freaky underwater lake.

It turns out there is a neurological explanation for why people scratch and cut themselves, and spank each other for pleasure. Inflicting small amounts of physical pain, whether from scratching your skin vigorously or doing something more extreme, deactivates the parts of your brain associated with unpleasant or painful emotions…..
